Abstract
1,132,862. Injection moulds. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 42715/65. Heading B5A. An injection mould comprises a mould cavity 19 defined between mould parts 3, 4, the part 4 being movable away from the part 3 after the part 3 has been spring urged away from a part 2 so as to separate the hardened material in a sprue 12 from the hardened material in the cavity 19. Parts 2 and 3 include plates 9 and 10 respectively which, together with a bushing 11 on plate 10 together define a sprue 12. Plates 9, 10 contact each other along a line 13 which is at an angle to the axis 14 of the sprue. The sprue material is retained by hardened material in a reversely tapered extension 16, and is ejected by a pneumatic ejector pin 17. The parts 2 and 3 are urged away from the part 1 by springs 6 and (7) respectively to the extent permitted by stop members (not shown).
