[Class 20 (iii)] A sliding window assembly comprises a main frame with a detachable guide for a sliding panel mounted therein and a resilient packing strip disposed between a flange on the main frame and the guide member, against which strip the guide is pressed by the means securing the guide to the frame. In the assembly shown a fixed panel 11 is secured to the main frame in the glazing strip 12, a packing strip 14 continuing round the remainder. of the frame. The strips 12 and 14 are held in the grooves 5 formed by -the upstanding flanges 4 of the frame and the detachable guides 23 and 27 for the sliding panel 15. The panel 15 is fitted on its lower edge with a metal channel member 16 formed with an offset inverted channel section 17, which engages the upstanding bead 26 of the detachable guide 27. The guide 27 extends the length of the frame, and is bedded upon the bar 3 of the main frame to which it is secured by the obliquely directed screws 29 which at the same time press the guide against the sealing strip 14 and the glazing strip 12. In a similar manner the upper guide member 23 and the end channel members 30 and 31, are secured to the upper and vertical sides of the frame. The upper edge of the panel 15 is unframed and slides in the guide 23 lined with felt 22. Channels 17 and 31 are also felt-lined and the channel 30 is fitted with a buffer strip 32. The forward edge of the panel 15 is fitted with a metal channel member 18 having a rib 19, an exterior wind deflector 20 and an internal finger-grip 21. A flexible rubber flap 34 secured to the fixed panel co-operates with the sliding panel as a draught and weather excluder.
