Abstract
733,445. Vehicle windows. WRIGHT, H. CLAYTON-. Dec. 1, 1953 [Dec. 6, 1952], No. 31000/52. Classes 20 (3) and 20 (4). A flexible glazing strip, made e.g. of rubber, for a vehicle sliding window assembly comprising a sliding pane 11 and a fixed pane 10, has one groove to receive an edge of a body panel 13 and another larger groove to receive a rigid guide 15 for the sliding pane 11, the fixed pane 10, and a packing strip 17, grooves being formed in one, or in both, sides of the strip to receive one, or two, filler strips 14. The guide 15, having inner and outer felt coverings 16, occupies approximately half of the larger groove, the other part of the groove being occupied by an edge of the fixed pane 10 and the rubber packing strip 17. The glazing strip is fitted into the window opening by first engaging the smaller groove with the edge 13 and then inserting into the larger groove the guide 15 and its coverings 16, the fixed and sliding panels, and the strip 17, the filler strips 14 then being inserted by means of a suitable tool. The strip may be shaped to facilitate the addition of a decorative finishing plate and may also be provided with a laterally projecting flange to present a smooth appearance between the strip and the surrounding window structure. The free vertical edge of the fixed pane 11 is provided with a felt curved aluminium guide 19. In a modification, Fig. 7, the fixed pane and the packing strip are accommodated in a separate groove 27, the channel 33 for the sliding window being provided with a rib 32 which is engaged in a groove formed in a ledge 30 in the glazing strip, drainage holes being formed in the channel 33 so that water can escape over the ledge 30. In a further modification the groove in the ledge 30 accommodates an angular guide piece which has a rib over which a lip on a second strip secured to the sliding pane is arranged to slide. In a further arrangement the fixed pane and the packing strip are arranged in one groove, the guide and the edge of the sliding pane being accommodated in an adjacent groove which has upwardly extending resilient lips adapted to press against the sliding pane and seal the channel against ingress of water when they meet over the portion of the guide not occupied by the sliding pane. The main and the filler strips may be coloured. Specification 529,527 is referred to.
