Abstract

703,873. Glazing means. WINDSHIELDS OF WORCESTER, Ltd., and JONES, A. E. E. June 16, 1952 [Sept. 6, 1951], No. 21036/51. Class 20 (3) Glazing means for a window panel 1 comprises a rigid channel member 2, e.g. of metal, containing a main glazing .strip 4, 15 of rubber :&c. adapted to engage one face of the panel and form a seating for the latter, in combination with an auxiliary glazing strip 5, 16 of rubber &c. adapted to engage the opposite face of the panel and to be interlocked with the main glazing strip. One wall 2a of the channel is higher than the wall 2b and is continued below the flat base of the .channel, and each wall has an inwardly directed rib 3. The main glazing strip 4 has a flat 'base to seat on the channel base, vertical outer faces having 'longitudinal grooves 6 which engage the ribs 3, on upstanding flange 7 with a lip 8 to cover the edge of wall 2a and a flat inner surface and horizontal ledge 9 to seat the panel, and a lower side formed with a dovetail groove 10 the outer wall of which overlaps the wall 2b and terminates in a flexible lip 11. The strip 5 has a portion 12 of dovetail section which may be sprung into the groove 10 and an upper portion having a flat inner face to contact the glass and a rounded outer face. 'The glass is 'slightly thicker than the groove formed by strips 4 and 5. The strip 5 may be sprung into position by means of a tool having a metal loop part, the strip being passed through the loop and the latter pressed -into and moved along the groove 10, the lip 11 -closing over the part 12. The assembled channel strips and panel form a unit which may be applied for example to a vehicle body. In Fig. 4, ribs 18 on the mainstrip 15 engages groove 19 in auxiliary strip 16. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 639,629.
