Abstract

814,284. Windshields. LIGHT, S. H. Dec. 15, 1955 [Sept. 15, 1954], No. 26790/54. Class 20(3) A windshield 1 for protecting the side windows 4, 5 of motor cars from wind and rain comprises an elongated piece of sheet material mounted at one longitudinal edge portion on the margin of the upper and forward part of the window opening 3 so that the other longitudinal edge portion stands out from the opening 3. As shown, the opening 3 houses a sliding window 4 and pivoted window 5 separated by a pillar 7 and the upper part 8 of the car door 2 is formed with a slot 9 in its lower wall 10 having flanges 11, the slot 9 being filled with an inverted channel section felt strip 12 to receive the sliding window 4 and a strip of rubber to receive the pivoted window 5. The windshield 1 is curved downwardly and tapered towards the front and the rear part is rounded off, the whole of the outer edge being doubled upwardly at 21 with a clearance over the main part. The shield 1 is secured by bolts 15, through holes 16, 19, to the lower wall 10, a turned up part 17 lying between the flange 11 and felt strip 12 and a cut out part 20 fitting over the pillar 7.
