[Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] Consists in connecting and disconnecting arrangement for a friction drive particularly applicable to a potter's jigger. To a motor shaft 11, Fig. 1, is keyed at 11a a sleeve 10 to which is secured by screws 13 a disc 12 the lower face of which serves as a friction surface. A ball bearing 14 is located between a flange 10a of the sleeve 10 and a flange 15a on one half 15 of a split pulley the other half 16 of which has a renewable friction facing 17. A belt lies in the groove 19 and, when it is tightened, it forces the facing 17 against the disc 12 whereby the drive from the motor 20 is transmitted through the shaft 11, disc 12 and pulley to the part to be driven. On slackening the belt the facing 17 is disconnected from the disc by gravity or a spring. In a potter's jigger, Figs. 2, 3, the motor 20 drives through the disc 12, the pulley 15, 16, as before, and a belt 22 drives a pulley 21a on the jigger spindle 21. The motor is mounted on a shaft 23 which can be rotated by an arm 24 actuated by a push-rod 25 against the pull of a spring 27 which serves to return the parts to slacken the belt and stop the drive. A brake shoe 28 on the motor bracket 30 is adapted to engage a disc 29 on the jigger spindle when the parts are returned by the spring 27, and to be released therefrom when the motor is turned to tighten the belt. As an alternative, the V- pulley may be driven by the belt to drive the disc.
