Abstract

573,994. Knitting. MELLOR, BROMLEY, & CO., Ltd., and SHORTLAND, A. Oct. 4, 1943, No. 16270. [Class 74 (ii)] Fabric with purl stitch effects is knitted upon a cylinder-and-dial machine by transferring knitted loops from selected needles in one bed to adjacent needles in the other bed, transferring loops from other selected needles in the second bed to needles in the first bed, and thereafter knitting on some at least of the needles with loops thereon in both beds. In addition, the knitted loops may be transferred from all of the needles in one bed to all the needles in the other bed and a course knitted by these receiving needles, whereupon all the knitted loops are transferred back to the needles of the first bed and a course knitted by these needles. Transfer members 5, 8 may be arranged in the needle tricks with the cylinder and dial needles 2, 4, or desired needles in one or each bed may be adapted to transfer stitches.
