Abstract
746,756. Knitting. NEBEL, M. Nov. 12, 1952 [Nov. 12, 1951], No. 28464/52. Class 74(2). A rib fabric is produced on a rib machine and the needles are so operated that two yarns fed and knitted separately form a structure in which the loop formation in any needle wale is of a four - course sequence. In each wale the two yarns a, bare successively knitted to form a short loop B, a long loop A and a double loop D, the two yarns a, b forming the double loop D in each wale extending to the adjacent wales where they are separately formed into the short loop B and long loop A. In addition, the long loops may be held and knitted together with the succeeding double loop to form a tuck stitch as indicated at R/H. Alternatively, the long loop may be cast off the needles before taking yarn to knit the double loop, this arrangement providing an openwork fabric. Also, between each sequence of courses, a row of normal stitches may be knitted. The method of forming the fabric involves a two-bed latch needle machine in which the needles are at right angles to each other and in which in order to form the short loops B, the yarn is drawn about that portion of the needles of the other bed that extends between the hook and latch.
