Abstract
572,468. Gun carriages. SMITH, W. H. June 24, 1940, Nos. 10828 and 12617. [Class 92 (i)] A field carriage is so constructed that, when the gun is in firing position, one wheel lies flat on the ground, the opposite wheel standing above the gunner and being preferably of disc form to serve as a shield. In the form shown, the carriage with conical wheels is shown turned on its side into the firing position, one wheel A resting flat on the ground to form a training base, the other Q forming a shield above the gun. The axle-tree D, formed of assembled metal plates, supports the elevation trunnions E of the gun F. To lock the gun in training, conical plates G, H are pressed against the wheel A by a screw-device operated by a handle N. The gun is locked in elevation by a clamp V engaging the arcuate portion of a vertical plate extending from the axle-tree D and supporting a front shield Y. Handles a, or an eye d attached to the gun muzzle, form draught means in the travelling position. The plates forming the axle-tree may be connected by tubes forming receptacles for ammunition.
