Field carriages.-An intermediate carriage f pivoted at its rear end c to the trail member a is coupled at its front end f<2> to the trail member b for low-angle firing and is raisable about the end c for high-angle firing. For low-angle firing, Fig. 1, the trail members a, b are connected by bolts c, d and a triangular member h. and a pin g is passed through the eyes f<2>, b<4> to lock the carriage f to the trail. The elevating-gear n<2> serves to move the gun on trunnions m in the carriage f. For high-angle firing, the trail member a is lowered to the ground, the parts a and b being then connected as shown in Fig. 3. The gear o<1> on the carriage f, by movement over the arc o<2> on the trail member b, then serves to elevate the carriage f about the pivot c. In a modification, the trail is in one piece bent so that its rear half rests on the ground.
