Abstract
572,126. Filters. HALSTEAD, P. E. March 29, 1944, No, 5768. [Class 46] A process of making a filter element comprises forming mass of cotton waste or other loose filtering material having substantially no inherent , shape-retaining properties into a shape suitable for flow therethrough in a transverse direction of the fluid to be filtered, and treating superficially the material with a liquid adapted to set and thereby rigidity the surface whereby the material is made or helped substantially to retain the desired shape. One or more turns of a strip of open-meshed fabric may be wrapped around the filtering material before application of the rigidifying liquid. The liquid may consist of a phenol-aldehyde'resin, and the filter element may comprise a rigid perforated tube with a flange at each end to accommodate between the flanges the coated loose filtering material.
