Abstract
570,049. Discharge lamps. CARBORUNDUM CO. Sept. 24, 1943, No. 15678. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups V and XXXVI] An electrical resistor comprising a resistive i core of electrical conducting material, a rigid relatively non-conducting layer surrounding the core, electrical connectors at the ends of the resistor and a vitrified glaze on the outside of said layer [see Group XXXVI] is placed in circuit with a starting electrode 21 of a mercury vapour lamp, having main electrodes 22, 23. The electrodes are mounted in an inner glass envelope 25 which is assembled by being placed inside the upper part 26 of an outer envelope, the leads and the starting resistance 20 being positioned at the lower end. A lower part 28 of the outer envelope containing the external leads 30, 31 is then joined on by means of flames 29. Finally, a metal cap (not shown) for connection to a supply socket, is cemented on.
