Abstract
566,717. Travelling grates. MORTON, L. Aug. 25, 1943, No. 13848. [Csas 51 (i)] In a travelling grate of the " drop link " type in which the links are pro. vided at one end with recesses engaging with a bulbheaded carrier bar attached to the links of the driving chains, each link a is provided with sickle-shaped baffles 3, 3a, Fig. 3, disposed around the recess 2 which engages with the carrier bar b, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and extended upwardly to the fuel surface of the link, one or each of the baffles being spaced from the recess 2 to provide a channel 4 through which air passes and serves to cool the metal around the recess and the upper part of the carrier bar b. The upper parts of the links are thickened and of equal thickness for a sufficient depth to permit of considerable wear. The carrier bars are fitted with shields 6 to prevent ashes falling into the recesses of the links in the return run of the grate.
