Abstract
565,255. Crucible furnaces. GUEST, F. G. June 10, 1943, No. 9310. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] In a crucible furnace having a separate inner casing F resting by a flange f on an outer casing A so as to provide a jacket f<2> through which air is blown to the space below the grate d<1>, the pipe H leading from the blower connects with a horizontal duct h cast on or secured to the casing A and extending on each side of the pipe H to oppositely disposed apertures h<1> in the inner casing, these apertures communicating with vertical open-topped passages j<2> from which the air passes downwardly through the jacket f to the grate. The inner casing F has inset flanged plates J forming the passages j<2> and is cast with two pairs of walls k, k between which the refractory lining G is filled in, this arrangement providing, as shown in Fig. 2, four-passages k<3> in the jacket for the downward passage of'air. The grate d<1> is supported on lugs c<2> projecting upwardly from a detachable base fitting C which is formed with an ash-discharge aperture c closed by a plate E adapted to be swung horizontally about a pivot e by a handle e<3>.
