Abstract

153,814. Village, R. Jan. 31, 1920. Casting processes; moulds; mould materials.- A feeder head, for heating the top of an ingot or other large mould and the metal therein, comprises an annular fire-place 4 with imperforated inner walls 1 which may be lined with a mixture 11 of fire-clay, graphite, and ganister or the like. Removable bars 5 and air inlets 14, 3 may be provided and gas or air under pressure may be admitted through one of the openings 14, the others being closed. The inner walls 1 close in towards the top so as to radiate heat downwards and fire-brick 7 in sections or luting makes a tight joint with the mould'. A detachable annular cover, with one or more flues, may be provided to prevent mefal from falling into the fire.
