Abstract
564,595. Heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS, Ltd., and GARNER, E. March 18, 1943, Nos. 4428 and 14208. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of curved tubes a arranged parallel with each other and jointed at their ends to header or tank plates b, b, a pair of curved side plates d, d arranged parallel with and at the outer sides of the tube assembly, and one or more perforated transverse tie plates c. The, or each, tie plate c is threaded on the tubes a so as to be located intermediate the header plates band is secured at its ends to the side plates d, preferably by a tongue-and-slot engagement e. Laminar elements providing rectangular air passages g are mounted between the tubes. These elements may be made from thin metal .strips f, Fig. 3, having flanged edges h formed with recesses corresponding in shape to the adjacent surfaces of the tubes, or from thin metal strips folded in a zig-zag manner. In the latter case some of the ridges of the strips are shaped to provide protuberances j, Fig. 6, adapted to enter spaces between the tubes ; dummy spacing tubes may also be located in alignment with the tubes a and between the ridges of adjacent strips.
