Abstract

647,678. Plate heat exchangers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 23, 1948, No. 16833. [Class 64(iii)] A plate heat exchanger comprises juxtaposed pairs of identical plates having parallel corrugations with one plate of each pair reversed so as to enclose separate longitudinal channels 3, consecutive pairs of plates being spaced apart to leave between one another continuous duct spaces 6 which are closed at their sides and ends except for lateral openings adjacent to their ends. In the form shown the corrugations in each plate are identical and of uniform pitch except for the corrugation adjacent one longitudinal edge. Alternate pairs of plates are reversed so that the channels 3 in adjacent pairs are staggered. Adjacent the sealed transverse edges 8, the duct spaces 6 are enlarged (Fig. 3) to form lateral entrances 6a or exits for the fluid flowing through the duct spaces 6 generally in counter flow to the fluid flowing through the channels 3. Combs 9 maintain the spacing of the pairs of plates.
