Abstract
564,515. Hose couplings. WILLIAMS, J. C., and WINBY, I. S. Feb. 17, 1943, No. 2666. [Class 99 (i)] In a coupling for a rubber hose pipe having an internal metallic reinforcement 10, the reinforcement is bared at the end of the hose and bent outwardly so as to lie against the coupling member 1 which has a nipple 2 entering the hose. A contractible clamping collar 16 has a tapered surface 17 whereby it is contracted on to the hose by a nut 22 screwing on to or into the coupling member. The collar is pressed on to the flanged end of the reinforcement. The collar is in segments which abut when the nut is fully tightened and is preferably tapered internally and externally at one end with a cylindrical portion 20 at the other end with a shoulder between the parts and a flared end 18. The nipple 2 has a cylindrical part 13, a part 15 tapering towards the coupling member, a cylindrical part 12 of smaller diameter than the part 13 and a partspherical nose.
