[Class 64 (iii)] The tubes 1 of a heat exchanger or economiser are provided with rectangular ribs which are alternately wavy 2a and straight 2b. The gaseous heat exchange medium flows in the direction a. The waves are relatively shallow, their height being less than half their length. The smallest crosssection d of the channels is 2/3 to ¥ of the largest crosssection e. The ribs extend only on opposite sides of the flat tube, Fig. 4, the sides of which are in the ratio 1 to 5-6. The adjacent tubes are arranged with the ribs in contact.
