Abstract
556,367. Piles. WEST'S PILING & CONS. TRUCTION CO., Ltd., and BIRD, A. G. May 4, 1942, No. 5977. [Class 68 (ii)] In a reinforced concrete shell pile comprising a shoe driven by a mandrel on which pile sections are assembled, the shoe and sections are connected to one another by their reinforcements so that the shoe draws the sections down with it thus avoiding heavy tamping of the sections themselves. In the pile shown, the shoe and sections are connected together by means of their reinforcements a, d, f which are pinned together at c or may be connected by a hinge or screw coupling, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The joints are covered by collars h, and the shell filled with concrete. The Provisional Specification also describes external connections comprising screwed or bayonet-jointed collars, and a pile in which the sections are hemi-cylindrical, the vertical faces being provided with interlocking joints, the horizontal joints being out of alignment.
