Abstract
556,068. Aircraft landing-gear. WILLIAMS, H. V. May 1, 1941, Nos. 5639 and 14412. [Class 4] For starting the rotation of an aircraft landing wheel prior to alighting, vanes b are mounted by means of C-shaped springs c upon a ring a secured to the wheel by lugs d hooked over the wheel rim. The vanes set themselves at an angle to catch the relative wind while on the lower part of the wheel, and parallel to the wheel on the upper part. Vanes may be provided on both sides of the wheel. If the wheel is supported at both ends of its axle the ring a is split radially and provided with a fishplate g to enable it to be readily removed.
