Abstract
562,651. Aircraft landing wheels. CLARK, A. H. Dec. 1, 1942, No. 17104. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXXIV] Rotation of aircrafi landing wheels by the windstream, prior tc landing so as to reduce the wear on the tyres when the aircraft touches down, is effected by forming the tyres with cups 4 or with tapering projections. The upper part of the wheel may be shielded to prevent the windstream from acting on that part of the wheel. According to the Provisional Specification, hinged vanes may be fitted to the sides of the wheel so as to be opened by the windstream or by spring at the lower part of the wheel and closed at the upper part or the wheels may be rotated by electric, hydraulic or spring motors or by the engines of the aircraft.
