Abstract
553,899. Pumps; pistons. ABBEY, A. (Bliss Co., E. W.). Nov. 6, 1941, No. 16736/42. Divided out of 553,874. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXVI] Relates to the link clamping means for use in shearing &c. machines described in Specification 553,874 and consists in a pump that automatically maintains the clamping pressure in the supply line. The pump is driven by a constantly running crank pin in the machine with a connecting rod pivoted at 45 to the pump plunger which is below parts 47, 49 normally kept apart by a spring 50 as limited by a screw 52. When the pressure in the line is less than that for which it is set, the plunger reciprocates as a whole and oil is drawn through a check valve 58 and delivered to the line through a check valve 57. When the pressure rises above this valve the pump ceases to act, the part 49 remaining stationary and the spring compressing to take up the movement imparted by the drive.
