Abstract
553,203. Rope and cable grips. CLEVERLY, E. G. Oct. 8, 1941, No. 12974. [Classes 44 and 109] A terminal grip for a wire or cable comprises a wedge 9 formed with a slit at 10 and adapted to engage in a corresponding sheath 4, the wire 16 being passed through a hole or recess 13 in the wedge, along the slit 10, and down along one outer side of the wedge so as to be gripped between the wedge and the sheath, the pull of the wire on the sheath causing the wedge to be drawn farther into the sheath so as to grip the wire not only between the wedge and the sheath but also between the two limbs 11, 12 of the wedge. The wedge and the sheath are made symmetrical, the upper edge of the limb 12 being rounded as shown and one side wall 7 of the sheath being longer than the other side wall 6, so that the grip can be readily put together by feel in the dark. The sheath is formed with lugs 2 and holes 8 for securing purposes In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the sheath may be suspended or secured by means of a wire loop the arms 20, 20A of which pass down between the wedge and the sheath and have their lower ends turned out at 21, 21A. In this construction a recess 19 is formed in the side of the wedge for the wire 16.
