Abstract
550,270. Sliding-clasp fasteners. PLASCO, Ltd., and THOMPSON, G. N. Sept. 3, 1941, No. 11260. [Class 44] A sliding clasp fastener which provides for a midbutton fastening effect as shown in Fig. 9, where the fastener members are engaged only in the vicinity of the slider 14, has an endfitting which allows separation of the stringers whilst the slider occupies a position remote from the end fitting. As shown the front wall of the fitting comprises a portion 17 hinged at 18 to a fixed portion 15, so that portion 17 may be swung to the position shown dotted in Fig. 6, allowing the stringer ends to be separated laterally whilst the slider 14 is in the desired position, and the fastener members 12, 13 to be then disengaged up to the slider by a ripping action. The end fitting has an internal socket 19 in which a reinforcing member 16 mounted on one stringer is permanently secured, leaving space to receive the positioning pin member 20 mounted on the other stringer. Part 17 is secured in its normal closed position by a turn-button type of fastener 21 operable by a tab handle 22.
