549,058. Compound sheet material. ROBERTSON CO., H. H. May 2, 1941, No. 5756. Convention date. Feb. 20. [Class 140] A compound sheet for use as roofing or siding for building purposes comprises a sheet of metal 10 tc one or both sides of which is secured a layer 12 of fibrous material such as asbestos paper or felt by means of metal or other adhesive 14, the surface of the fibrous layer or layers being subjected to embossing under high pressure so as to compact the fibrous material and to form on its surface a multiplicity of small protuberances 16. The sheet may be completed by outer layers 18 of paint &c. The embossing may be effected between embossing rollers at a pressure of 3,000 to 5,000 pounds per linear inch and previous to embossing the compound sheet may be saturated in a bath of bituminous material.
