547,691. Lenses. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). May 21, 1941, No. 6551. [Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising a negative component III spaced between two positive doublets each comprising a positive element I, V, cemented to a negative element II, IV nearer the negative component III, the cemented surfaces R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> being convex to the component III, each positive element IV has a refractive index at least .025 greater than that of the negative element cemented to it, and the Petyval sum for the cemented surface R<SP>2</SP> lies between .008 and 0.13 ; the Petyval sum for the surface R<SP>7</SP> may be between .020 and .075. The component III may be simple or compound and may comprise a negative element having a refractive index greater than 1.58. The dispersive indices of the elements I, II may be substantially the same and the refractive index of the element V may be greater than 1.7. Data for eleven examples, in some of which the correction for coma and astigmatism extends over a wide field, are included in the Specification.
