[Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] In the speed control of polyphase shunt commutator motors by means of a double induction regulator in association with the secondary of the motor, a quadrature component approximately constant over the whole range of regulation is introduced into the secondary circuit so as to improve the power factor by employing regulators with unequal secondary voltages and rotating them at unequal rates. The secondary winding producing the higher voltage rotates at the lower rate and the relative rates are such that a resultant substantially constant component of voltage substantially in phase with the secondary voltage at the minimum voltage is present for all positions of the regulator.
