537,233. Asymmetrically-conducting resistances. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1939. No. 31898. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1938. [Class 37] Each unit of a rectifier comprises a carrier plate 2, semi-conductor 3, and contact layer 4, the whole being associated with a cooling plate 12 in thermal contact with the carrier through a contact piece 13 of small area so that the greater part of the surface of the carrier and cooling plates is uncovered. When the assembly is on a stud 8, the contact piece is a sleeve as shown. The contact area between the sleeve 13 and the carrier 2 may be machined. An insulating separator 7 takes the pressure of the assembly and bears directly on the carrier of the adjacent unit, the semi-conducting layer being absent at the pressure point.
