Abstract
533,604. Mercerizing-apparatus. HERZOG, H. Oct. 24, 1939, No.. 28572. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1938. [Class 15 (i)] Apparatus for mercerizing fabrics by the process claimed in Specification 519,071 comprises an impregnating device in which the fabric is first saturated and then squeezed, being then led into a swelling and contracting field consisting of driven or non- driven guide rollers carrying the fabric into and out of the saturating liquid. The fabric is passed over curved spreading cylinders D over a roller F in the impregnating trough and thence ' to a foulard H. From the latter the material passes over a roller aggregate J, K where a swelling of the fibres and a shrinkage of the fabric occurs. The fabric then passes a tension meter L to a foulard M and thence to a tension meter N from which it passes to a device for tensioning width-wise consisting of curved rollers R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> carried on fixed pedestals, and rollers R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> mounted on an adjustable frame. The transverse tension is maintained by the curved rollers S where the fabric is sprayed, the last rollers lying in a lye-removing trough T. The fabric then passes to a further lye-remover V. Y<SP>1</SP>, Y<SP>2</SP> are measuring wheels. In a modification, the rollers in the saturating section are spaced and the width-retaining aggregate are hot curved and are preceded by a foulard.
