Abstract

322,885. Fougerat, A. Dec. 1, 1928. Pleating.-After the pleates have been made, the fabric is passed through a pleat-setting device involving a pair of travelling bands passing round guide or stretching rollers, said bands gripping the fabric between them and one of the bands being moistened. Various forms of apparatus are described in the Specification, some involving endless bands, some employing bands rolled up and unrolled from terminal cylinders, and some employing a combination of these two types. In the form shown in Fig. 4, one band 2 is endless and passes around rollers 3 - - 6 and 7 and around a cylinder 1 which is heated by gas, electricity, or other means. The second band 16 is moistened by a bath 17 and is unrolled from a cylinder 15 passing successively around rollers 19, 10, 6, 7 and 11 to a winding-on cylinder 20. The pleated fabric 12 passes between the two bands and round the heated cylinder and guide rollers to a trough 13 where it is collected. The cylinder 1 is driven to correspond with the entrance of the fabric from the pleating operation.
