Abstract
866,074. Shrinking fabrics. BRADFORD DYERS' ASSOCIATION Ltd. Nov. 25, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 35925/56. Class 42 (1). In a method of shrinking textile fabrics, the fabric is passed from a compressive shrinking apparatus to a Palmer dryer, the shrinking apparatus and dryer being sufficiently close together to obviate the necessity for providing an intermediate supporting surface for the fabric, and their relative speeds being such that the fabric is delivered from the shrinking apparatus at a speed which is slightly less than that at which it travels round the dryer. The fabric 1 is shrunk by compression between a heated roller 2 and an endless belt 3, after which it travels unsupported to the endless belt 8 of a Palmer dryer. The heated roller 2 of the shrinking apparatus is positively driven and drives the drum 6 of the dryer through a chain 11, an infinitely variable gear 7 and a chain 12. Mention is made of the fact that the shrinking apparatus may be of the kind in which the fabric is fed to the nip between two outlet rollers at a speed greater than that at which it passes through the nip, in which case both outlet rollers may be geared to the drum of the Palmer dryer.
