Abstract

A tubular fabric 62 passes through a nip formed between roller 56 and 51 and subsequently through a nip formed between rollers 51 and 59 to be treated by a liquid lying in the trough formed by the three rollers. The roller 51 is driven via a chain 53 and sprocket 52 while the rollers 56 and 59 are driven by surface contact with roller 51 and by a chain 70 passing about sprockets on rollers 56, 51, 59. This chain drive ensures synchronous running of the rollers even through the surface hardness of at least one of the associated pairs differs. The rollers 56, 59 are mounted on frames 54, 57 pivoted at 55, 58 and are baised, e.g. by actuater 60, against the roller 51. The arrangement is such that the resultant forces on rollers 56, 59 from the chain 70 act approximately through the respective pivot pins 55, 58 so that the tension in this chain does not effect the pressure of the nips. In another form (Fig. 1, not shown) only one, 20, of the presser rollers is driven synchronously with roller 12 and the chain 31 runs about a sprocket 35 mounted on an arm 36 such that when roller 20 is lifted, e.g. for threading up the fabric, the sprocket 35 is shifted to allow for the movement of the chain.
