Abstract

530,971. Gas-blast switches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. May 18, 1939, No. 14829. Convention date, May 27, 1938. [Class 313 (v)] An air-break isolating switch a1, a2 is placed in series with a gas blast circuit-breaker comprising the series-connected breaks b1... b8 mounted on insulators c1, c2, on a movable framework, the longitudinal members of which serve as air containers d, whereas the cross members house the control valve or valves e and blast valve or valves f. The spacer g communicates with containers d and leads by pipes h1, h2 to, respectively, the switching points and piston i for the isolating blades al, a2. The switching points are shunted by impedances, such as high resistances r1 ... r8, the purpose of which is to equalize the voltage-drops across the individual breaks and reduce the current subsequently to be broken by the isolating switch. The resistances may be located inside or outside the extinguishing chambers. Alternatively, the walls of the latter may be sprayed or metallized inside or out, or be composed of semi-conductive material. Condensers may be used instead, the chamber material having a dielectric-constant greater than 10. Chokes are also referred to. The valves e, f, may, alternatively, be located in the insulator caps k1, k2 containing the pistons i. Each break comprises a fixed nozzle contact m1 and movable pin contact m2, or movable nozzle contact, Fig. 2 (not shown) operated by air-pressure, the contact-members being united to members s1 ... s8 for separating the individual breaks and formed with the blast inlets p and outlets q.
