525,875. Photographic colour development. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Feb. 28. 1939, No. 3689/40. Divided out of 525,765. [Class 98 (ii)] A colour forming developer comprises an aromatic amino developing agent and a colour coupler having the formula shown in Fig. 1, wherein Z represents an alkyl or aryl group and C* is a carbon atom in a saturated homocyclic or heterocyclic nucleus or in an alkyl group attached to such nucleus. Z may be methyl or phenyl. Examples specified are hexahydrobenzoylacetone, #-(hexahydrobenzoyl)-acetophenone, 1-carbethoxy-2-acetoacetylcyclohexane, #-(tetrahydrofuroyl)-acetophenone, and 6-cyclohexyl-n-hexanedione-2:4. The reactive methylene group may have easily displaceable substituents, such as halogen or carbalkoxy. The aromatic amino developing agents are of the usual kind as specified in Specification 525,765. The colour coupler may also be incorporated in a silver halide emulsion and may be absorbed on the silver halide grains. The colour development process employing the colour-couplers may be applied to the production of coloured photographic images in mixed-grain emulsions or in multilayer material having differently coloursensitized emulsion layers superimposed on one or both sides of the support. The material may be plates, films, or papers. A formula for a colour developer is given. Specifications 427,472, 427,516, 427,518, 427,520, 440,032, 440,089, and 447,092 also are referred to.
