Abstract
525,078. Electric soldering-irons. WHITE, J. H. Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4789. [Class 39 (iii)] The bit is formed by a pointed copper operating part 1, and a body part 2 enclosing a sandwich element 4 in which a heating resistance is incorporated, the terminals of which engage with spring clips or terminals 9 on an insulating base 8 within the handle 7. When the grub screw 13 is removed, the bit and heating element may be removed and replaced by a new set. Alternatively, the cover plate 3 of the heating element may be removed, and a new sandwich element 4 inserted. Each terminal 9 may be made of a bimetallic strip so that on rise of temperature the two sides of the clip terminal tend to move towards one another and increase the grip, as described in Specification 521,615, [Group XXXVII]. The heating element may be constructed as described in Specification 490,481.
