Abstract

524,670. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH- (Schramm, Inc.). Feb. 7, 1939, No. 4007. [Class 135] A compressor receives air through a poppet valve 22 actuated by a cam 36 through a follower 48 pressing on a piston 44 acting through a screwhead 40 on the valve stem, and delivers the compressed air through an automatic annular-valve 24. The inlet valve 22 is held open at a certain reservoir pressure by air admitted to the cylinder 46 enclosing the piston 44, and raising the piston. This air supply is admitted by a pipe 52 connected to a valve, Fig. 2, to which air is admitted from the reservoir 30. At low pressures the valve disc 68 is held on its upper seat, and allows the pipe 52 to communicate with atmosphere by leakage past a ball valve 84 and through a passage 80. At high pressures, the disc is forced down on its lower seat and the compressed air passes to the pipe 52 and cylinder 46. The inlet valve may be located in the compressor cylinder head surrounded by the outlet valve, and actuated through a lever.
