Abstract
476,089. Valves. MOTORAKTIESELSKAPET AV 1935, and GROSS, C. Feb. 13, 1937, No. 4382. [Class 7 (vi)] Fluid under pressure supplied to internal channels within the valves for cooling the same is also used for acting on pistons on the valve stems for actuating the valves. Air under pressure supplied at 5 acts on a piston 8 on the valve stem 1 to replace wholly or partly the usual valve spring. The air also enters the hollow valve stem at 2 for cooling purposes, and escapes at 3, being guided by a helical strip 4 within the valve stem. The outlet 3 may be in communication with the suction in the inlet manifold. Oil may be used instead of air.
