Abstract
522,714. Spinning hay bands &c. KNOX, J., and POLLARD, J. T. Dec. 14, 1938, No. 36401. [Class 120 (ii)] A machine for spinning ropes of hay, fibre &c. comprises a driven hollow spindle b carrying a pair of feed rollers d, e and a flyer m. The roller e is pressed by e spring f against the roller d which carries a spur wheel g meshing with' a wheel h fast with a bevel pinion i carried by a stud on the shaft and meshing with a bevel wheel fixed to the pedestal a. The material passes through the shaft b and is fed forward by the rollers d, e to guides t, t<SP>1</SP> in the flyer and is wound up on a reel r slightly mounted on a spindle p movable in a swivelling standard n. The spindle p is also supported during spinning in a recess p<SP>1</SP> in the boss of the flyer and the reel, which is braked by a band s, slides to and fro along the spindle p as the spun material is wound thereon. When the ball on the reel is completed, the spindle p is drawn out of the recess p' and swung away from the flyer so that the removable flange r<SP>2</SP> of the reel may be removed and the wound ball doffed from the reel.
