Abstract
522,306. Cam mechanism; loom shedding mechanism. MATTERSON, W. July 28, 1939, No. 26817/38. [Class 142 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a cam mechanism (shown as applied to the shedding mechanism of a loom) a pair of opposed cams 39 act on a roller 34 on a member 17 whereby the member is reciprocated positively. The cam shafts pass through slots 35 in the member 17 and discs 36 on the shafts engage the slots to guide the member. The cam shafts are geared to run in the same direction and they and the holes in the cams are of polygonal or other section to facilitate correct angular setting of the cams without the use of keys. A number of such units are assembled side by side on the cam shafts and mounted at one or each end of the loom. The members 17 are coupled by means of jaws 47 to the heald shafts and the various pairs of cams are shaped to give the required shedding sequence. In a modification, each pair of cams acts on one end of a pivoted lever, the other end of which is coupled to a heald shaft. In a further modification,- adapted to be disposed underneath the heald shafts, the cam shafts are arranged in the same horizontal plane and members, similar to the members 17, are reciprocated horizontally. The members have jaws at each end engaging arms of bell-crank levers, the other arms of which are linked directly to the heald shafts.
