Abstract
521,291. Alternating-current motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BOTTLE, E. K. Nov. 11, 1938, No. 32851. [Class 35] In a synchronous motor of the type comprising a rotor having a squirrel-cage starting-winding the portions of the rotor between the poles are so constructed that the difference in reluctance between these portions and those forming the poles is comparatively small while the motor is at rest, but while it is running and the flux 'through the rotor is consequently increased these portions are saturated, thus increasing the difference in reluctance of the different part of the rotor. The Figure shows a six-pole rotor according to the invention. The portions between the poles are occupied by deep slots 9 between which are narrow portions of iron. In the pole-portions of the rotor are shallow slots 8, open on the surface to increase the reluctance.
