[Class 35] The squirrel cage windings of an induction motor are arranged in zigzag shaped slots in the rotor, the rotor being subdivided so that the slots in one portion are staggered with respect to the slots in an adjacent portion. In the form shown, the windings in the two rotor subdivisions 1, 2 are connected to a common ring 5. In a modification, the slots in each portion are vee-shaped.
