Abstract
520,145. Couplings. HAYWOOD, T. E., and GENERAL RAILWAY SIGNAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 11, 1938, No. 29473. [Class 38 (i)] Relates to a coupling member for making connection between the end of one cable and an intermediate point of another, for example between the end of a cable connected to a source of supply or to a relay and the centre of a loop of cable attached at its ends to a track rail. The cable end C passes up through a hollow stem 1 and is secured by a bolt and nut 3 to an extension 2 on the coupling member. The other cable is received in a bore 8 formed between separable parts 6, 7 the part 6 being integral with an extension 5 on the coupling member and the part 7 being located by a tongue 13 entering a recess in the extension 5 and a shoulder 10 resting on the top of the stem 1. The parts 6, 7 are pressed together by a bolt and nut 11, 12, the shoulder 10 acting as a fulcrum. The parts 6, 7 may be so shaped that the bore 8 is curved to increase its grip on the cable.
