Abstract
708,196. Automatic couplers. AMERICAN STEEL FOUNDRIES. Jan. 10, 1952 [Feb. 21, 1951], No. 782/52. Class 103(5) To prevent accidental uncoupling resulting from relative vertical movement between mated coupler heads there is provided beneath the throat 16 a shelf 20 having a surface 30 engaging the underside of the knuckle 18 of the mating coupler. To facilitate coupling when the couplers are at different heights the shelf 20 is provided with an inclined surface 32 which joins the lower horizontal part 31 with the part 30. The shelf 20 is reinforced on its underside by the web 24, and is supported from the coupler head 3, by a depending skirt 22.
