Abstract

520,072. Alloys. INLAND STEEL CO. July 8, 1938, No. 2403/40. Convention date, April 30, 1938. Divided out of 520,024, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 31, 1939. [Class 82 (i)] Lead is introduced into steel by adding it in subdivided form, such as pieces of uniform size, e.g., shot, to the steel in a furnace, and stirring the steel while in the furnace, whereby the lead is dispersed in the steel. The lead may be added as metallic lead, litharge, galena, lead phosphate, lead and iron sulphides, or any of the following alloys : a 1:1:1 lead-tin-antimony alloy ; a lead iron-sulphur alloy; or lead alloys containing the following elements : 40 or 1À5 per cent. of tin ; 66 per cent. of copper and 2 per cent. of tin ; 0À6 per cent. of calcium ; 3 per cent. of bismuth ; 1À1 per cent. of arsenic ; 0À5 or 1À6 per cent. of cadmium; 0À1 per cent. of tellurium ; 1À7 per cent. of antimony: 0À1 per cent. of lithium ; 0À3 or 0À9 per cent. of zinc ; 0À3 per cent. of sodium ; 0À3 per cent. of magnesium. Specifications 519,572 and 519,615 are referred to.
