Abstract
In the production of magnesium-base alloys consisting of Mg; 2-10 per cent Al; small quantities, e.g. 0.05-0.3 per cent, Mn; with or without one or more of the following elements Zn up to 3.0 per cent, Be up to 0.2 per cent, Ca up to 0.5 per cent, rare earth metals up to 1.0 per cent, Cd up to 4.0 per cent, A.g. up to 4.0 per cent and Cu up to 4.0 per cent, the Mn is introduced as a hardener alloy, at least 80 per cent of which consists of Mn and Al, the Mn forming 2-9 per cent of the hardener alloy and the melt, during alloying being raised to a temperature from 700-800 DEG C. and at least above the melting-point of the hardener alloy.
