Abstract
518,082. Hydraulic power transmitters. LAVAUD, R. S. DE. Aug. 13, 1938, No. 23949. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1937. [Class 69 (ii)] In a hydraulic power transmitter, two sets of fixed radial guide vanes 3, 3<1> are disposed between the blades 5 fixed on a drawing impeller wheel and the blades 11 mounted on a driven turbine and adjustable to vary the speed ratio and to effect reversal. The blades 3, 3<1> are carried by a ring S co-axial with the aligned driving and driven shafts 1, 2. The blades 5 rotate in the annular space 10 and are mounted between a plate 6 keyed on the shaft 1 and a ring 8 secured to the plate 6 by struts 8'. Liquid from an inlet pipe L is supplied under pressure to the space 10 by means of a centrifugal injection pump formed by a spiral-shaped groove 6<1> in that side of the plate 6 which bears against a fixed plate 9. The blades 11 are straight or curved and rotate in the annular space 10'. They are journalled at 12, 12<1> parallel to the shafts 1, 2 in a ring 13 and a plate 14 which is fastened to a plate 15 keyed on the shaft 12, the rings 13 being secured to the plate 14 by struts 13<1>. The blades 11 have projections 18 which engage in slots in a plate 16<1> fastened to a sleeve 16 which is connected by a pin and helical groove coupling to a sleeve 17 slidable along but not rotatable around the shaft 2. Axial movement of the sleeve 17 by an automatically or hand operated handle V therefore rocks the blades 11 about their journals 12, 12<1>. Air and excess liquid pass through an aperture 4<1> into an exhaust circuit which includes a loaded relief valve.
