Abstract

517,821. Priming centrifugal pumps. SOUTHERN, J., and WORTHINGTON - SIMPSON, Ltd. Aug. 5, 1938, No. 23163. [Class 110 (i)] To prevent air leakage into a water-ring priming pump 12, the gland 16 of the centrifugal pump 1 has a tubular extension 17 which embraces, but does not touch, the shaft 5. The extension enters a tubular extension 15 of the ring pump casing and is sealed therewith by a gasket 18. Water leakage from the centrifugal pump along the shaft serves to replenish the water ring of the pump 12. Specifications 470,208 and 494,372 are referred to.
