Abstract
514,565. Moulding concrete &c. in shaking &c. machines. SHOCK CONCRETE (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd. May 10, 1938, No. 13936. Convention date, May 10, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] Relates to the consolidation in moulds of damp pulverulent materials as described in Specification 427,213, wherein the material is subjected' to a series of sudden individual successive impacts by causing the mould, which is rigidly secured to a heavy rigid support 3, to fall by gravity from a height not exceeding 25 mm., and suddenly arresting the fall by the impact of small isolated areas 5 of the support with members 4 of a heavy anvil 2 on a heavy rigid bed 1. According to the invention, means acting in the direction of gravity is used to assist gravity. As shown, a leaf spring is secured to the support 3 for the mould and its free ends are anchored to the anvil 2 by pivoted links 10. A piston operated by compressed air, or an electromagnet may be used for the same purpose. The invention is applicable to the manufacture of articles of concrete. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the application of the invention to the consolidation of ceramics, phenol condensation products, and mixtures of metals in powder form. An example is given of the consolidation of a mixture of powdered tungsten and silver to which water is added. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
