[Class 36]' A cable is insulated with one or more layers of dry heat-resisting inorganic fibrous material, coated with and impregnated in its outer regions with a cellulose triester. One or more layers of cellulose triester, applied in the form of tapes, may also be included in the insulation and the cable may be sheathed with lead or a lead alloy or with asbestos or glass braiding impregnated with a synthetic resin or cellulose triester. Cellulose triacetate, plasticized with butyl phthalate or butyl phosphate, may be applied to the fibrous material, after application of the latter to the conductor and drying, as a solution in methylene chloride. The fibrous material may be asbestos or glass fibres or both.
